These stories are further understood through the facts about Zeus and the Olympian Gods, by studying the real events of the myths, the myths are understandable.The story of Demeter and the birth of Zeus begins from the time when the sun god Helios and the moon goddess Demeter cam e to earth to spend their nights there and create a time of eight days of light and darkness. When night fell, they started worshiping each other and thus the Olympian Gods were born. The day and night cycle continued for six hundred years. Each night, Helios and Demeter offered up their goddesses to the divine side of the sun and moon. Each night, the gods saw two celestial bodies.The Sun and the Moon thought that the other was becoming overpowered and were in pain. Helios told them to escape to the east and to the place that was beyond the shining of the sun and the moon. They climbed the mountain peak and called out to Zeus to come for them. Zeus saw the celestial bodies and was frightened. He flew off to the east and was terrified that the Earth had been lost.As the night drew on, Demeter died and the cosmos was left empty. The night sky was plunged into darkness. No stars appeared or they faded away. There was no moon and only the stars. In his fury, Zeus sent torrents of fire down from the sky and a great earthquake struck the land. It took seven days to rebuild the ruined mountains and the destroyed area.Helios and Demeter lived together for three hundred years and made many children. They created Kronos, who became the father of the other five Olympian Gods. When he died, he left six children to take over the lands. They divided the world into eight parts and gave each part its name.
